Dangers of owning pet reptiles

While reptiles such as turtles and lizards can make for cute pets, others such as snakes and scorpions are a little more dangerous. We recommend familiarising yourself with the possible dangers of owning a reptile before you get one.

Disease - Reptiles have the potential of passing zoonotic diseases through bacteria, fungi, viruses or parasites. Salmonella is a common issue, while botulism is another possibility. The good news is that you can speak with our staff about the necessary precautions to ensure you never contract an illness that is transmitted through your pet reptile.

Safety – At Pets to Pamper we do not sell snakes that bite but all scorpions contain venom that can be dangerous to humans and other pets in your home. We will walk you through the precautions to take when handling and caring for scorpions and snakes, when you come to our store to buy one.
